Old age snuck up on me when I wasn't looking...
Used to run and used to laugh
Used to be able to get out of the bath
Used to jump and used to skip
Before I got sore legs and sore hips
Never used to be this way
Never used to puff like I do nowadays
Never used to take so many pills
Never thought I would ever be so "over the hill"
But old age snuck up on me when I wasn't looking!
Everything is "heading south"
Deep lines have formed round my eyes and mouth
Don't have to shave my legs so much
Instead long dark hairs on my face must be plucked
Energy now I sadly lack
Grey hairs in my eyebrows now outnumber the black
My metabolism is slowing down
No longer skinny, I now carry too many pounds
Because old age snuck up on me when I wasn't looking!
I know I'm not on my "last legs" yet
In fact I've probably got twenty years left
And although my mind is saying "seize the day"
My body is saying "have a nana nap today"
Time is slowing me down and making me tired
A few of my cylinders no longer fire
The mind is willing, but the body grows weary
Odd things upset me now and makes me feel teary
Because old age snuck up on me when I wasn't looking!
Because still in my mind I am only eighteen
I want to turn cartwheels, run around, let off steam
There is so much in life I still want to achieve
So much to discover while I can still breathe
So much to learn still, time it just flew
So much left to accomplish, so much left still to do
So much I still want to do in this life
So many big dreams inside my mind running rife
If only old age hadn't snuck up me when I wasn't looking!
