Early start this morning to head to the field and take out tour by balloon over the Bagan pagodas.
What a brilliant morning! We were in the air just before the sun rose. When the sun appeared and started to shine on the pagodas and stupas, it was spectacular. My first ever balloon ride and it was wonderful. I love looking directly down at the roads and farms. We also had the added bonus of early morning fog mixed with smoke creating lovely patterns against the scenery.
Myanmar is situated over fault lines and is prone to earthquakes which have taken their toll on the pagodas and stupas, but locals are steadily restoring them.
We eventually landed on a sand bank by the river where we were collected by the buses and returned to the hotel.
Unfortunately I had a touch of bali belly and was not able to do the afternoon's schedule.
