Day 1 saw our tour travelling by river boat on the Irrawaddy River to Mingun City. There we visited the Mingun temple and the Mingun Bell - the world's largest working bell. We visited the Settawya Pagoda and the Hsinbyume Pagoda (a beautiful large white pagoda). We walked around the township and also were able to visit the Monastery school grounds.

We returned to Mandalay for lunch and after lunch we travelled to the Shwenandaw Monastery and the Golden Palace Monastery (carved in teak, although the gold has been worn away over time, but there are still significent traces indoors). Then we travelled on to the Tripitaka tablets at the Kuthodaw Pagoda. This is where we found the world's largest book, each page carved on tablets and each tablet encased in a small pagoda, and there were many many pagodas.

We then travelled by bus to the U Bein Bridge and finished the day photographing the sunset.
