Spreading my Wings
The time is getting nearer when I shall have to go ~
My time on earth is limited, I wish it wasn't so.
I am feeling my mortality as others my age pass.
I love this life, I love this earth, I wish that it could last.
I still feel I'm eighteen inside, but I'm way past that age now!
How time has flown! Where has it gone? I really do not know,
And what have I to show for all this time that I have been?
Wrinkled skin and laughter lines, and yes, that double chin!
Although I'm still eighteen inside, the exterior is jaded ~
My skin no longer fits me and my brunette hair is faded.
My body aches from all the fun and running I have done
From climbing trees and riding bikes, and playing in the sun.
I have regrets, we all have some, but mistakes are part of life.
We learn and grow from all of this, the bad times and the strife.
Beautiful people I have known and beautiful sights I've seen
Swirl around inside my mind and make for pleasant dreams.
So at the pointy end of life, when I'm supposed to know it all,
Wisdom still eludes me and has caused me many falls.
I take to much to heart you see, and this has held me back.
I am afraid of hurting others, never trying to fight back.
So my goal from now until I die, cross my heart I swear ~
I shall try to fight the negatives, bad people best beware!
I know I'm a good person and I have a lot to give,
Belief in self and positive thoughts is how I want to live.
Depression stand aside please, sadness and doubt please go.
I shall try and my best from now on to not let you make me low.
You sap my strength and confidence and fill my thoughts with doubt.
I cannot fight you when you come, but am finding ways to push you out!
My poetry is helping me, I used to write when I was young,
But time for it was stolen with my family, work and fun.
Several decades later, and rediscovering my "thing" ~
Please come with me on my journey, as I learn to use my wings.
