The Mirror
When I look in my mirror, what do I see?
Am I really as horrid as some folk believe?
We each all have problems, get over it you say?
As yet another 'friend' goes on their way.
'You're just after sympathy' I hear someone crowing.
No, just a friend who cares how I'm going.
No pity for me, I say, do you hear?
Just some good friends to understand and care.
When I am low, I hide myself away,
Not wanting to ruin everyone's day.
I can imagine them saying, when I am down -
'Here comes that mad woman, quick, get out of town!'
When I look in my mirror, what do I see?
Who is that person that looks back at me?
There's sadness and tears and a need to belong.
Now tell me please .... how can that be so wrong?
Depression's a killer, I've heard it been said.
'Better off dead' says the voice in their head.
To me life's a gift, I am happy to say.
No matter how bad, I cherish each day.
What do you see when you look in my eyes?
Do you see someone that you should despise?
Am I so horrid that you cannot see
How much I wanted our friendship to be?
Friendship comes easy to others, not me.
So long on the outside, but not wanting to be.
Unsure of my standing to fit with the rest,
Unsure if I'm wanted, my head is a mess!
I know I am normal, I'm not that unique.
There's many that suffer that which we'd rather not speak.
Some put on a brave face and go face the day,
And I too can do that, when my day is not gray.
So when you look in YOUR mirror, what do you see?
Someone uncaring, who would rather just flee.
Or do you see someone that understands me?
Someone that's not all that different to me?
